Consecration, a Product of Purification

January 17, 2018

Dear Family

Yesterday was MLKjr day, so we weren't able to email, so here it is!

These last few weeks have been challenging for me in a lot of ways. I haven't gotten a lot of sleep, and I have spent a lot of time in prayer and fasting in an effort to ask for the Lord's help with not only the area but with the Zone's. These last few weeks have also been some of the favorites of my entire mission thus far because I have seen the immense blessings of sincere prayer and love on behalf of those we are called to serve. This last week was especially tricky, MLC and Elder Ward's Temple Jubilee being back to back. I'm so grateful for the promptings of the Spirit and the direction from the Lord that is so readily available. Planning Zone Training would have been impossible without it. During these last two weeks, we have noticed a lot of struggles within the Zones. In answer to our prayers, Elder Ward and I felt inspired to focus on 4 important questions and the Atonement for Zone Training.

Those questions were:
1. Why are you here?
2. What do you want to become?
3. Are you a progressing investigator for the Lord?
4. What are you going to do to change?

To begin we watched the majority of the He is Risen Video and read Luke 22:40-44, and asked all the missionaries to consider the Savior in the Garden and on the Cross as we asked these questions. Many times throughout Zone Training the Spirit was strong, and as we introduced and committed the missionaries to the purification process, we received a lot of really positive feedback. When we went on exchanges with Elder McCleve and Elder Vernon the next day, it was amazing to hear that they were taking the commitment to become more consecrated seriously. I know that it was the Holy Ghost that did the teaching and I really do believe that these Zones will really grow from this process. I'm so happy to be serving here in Colorado Springs and that I have the opportunity to let my own will go, and do what the Lord wants me to do.

Yesterday we were able to go hiking with some members and play a lot of basketball with the High Plains zone, which was awesome. Never thought I'd like basketball, but its fun. I'm just really competitive.

Shout out to my brother Ben, who will be turning 16 in the next few weeks! Love you brother.

I want to bare my humble testimony of my Savior Jesus Christ and his Gospel. I know He lived. I know that He died for me. I know that He lives today and that He will never abandon me. The Book of Mormon is true, I know it. I know that there are people who are ready for more truth. We just have to keep our eyes open and our hearts open to the feelings and promptings of the Holy Ghost. This last Friday after zone training, we were contacting some returning members and were having no luck. As my companion and I considered our options, he asked me if there was anyone who came to mind who I felt would need a visit. Immediately I thought of Sister Wilson. When we arrived at her house, we remembered that we didn't have another member with us. We finally decided that we would knock on her door anyway to at least say hi. As she answered her door, she let us in, and to our astonishment, there sat her son, who was not a member of the Church. We invited him to learn more and he accepted. Because of our willingness to listen to the Holy Ghost we were able to find the person God wanted us too.

I hope yall have an amazing week. Love you dearly and miss you lots!

Love,
Elder Rogers
