So I have some unfortunate news. I got transferred out of Canon City 2nd Ward :( After 3 transfers there (4 ish months) President pulled me out of training Elder Morgan and Elder Mccleve to reopen The Stetson Hills area! Lucky President didn't give my boys away to some stranger, and they are officially done with training early. #studs#proudpapa. I really love both of those guys and it was probably one of the happiest, hardest working times of my mission. It was truly a blessing!
So Stetson Hills is in the East Stake of Colorado Springs. The 6035 feet at the lowest point. And there is no such thing as a flat place here. Its either uphill or downhill. I live off of Austin Bluffs and Rangewood, and my area starts at Powers and Stetson Hills. (mind you, there aren't any houses for another quarter mile after the area begins) My house is almost exactly two miles away from the area. Are you ready for the real kicker? We are biking. I've decided that the physique I'm going for is thick thighs and pretty eyes, or at least that's what is going to happen here. I think in total we biked 50 plus miles this week! The Lord has really blessed me with the capacity to do this work and I am so grateful for it!
So I found out on Sunday I was getting transferred and was a whiner about it till Tuesday, so sorry about that! On Tuesday I picked up my new companion Elder Nielsen, and we got dropped off by my twins :'( after a tearful parting I was left alone with my comp. To sum up my week, we had 4 flat tires in 3 days, and we weren't able to do any work because of it. So my bike is in the shop, and we have accumulated 4 loaner bikes! When we did finally get in the area, It was great! Every family I have met I have loved, this ward is so awesome!
I think the only cool thing that happened this week was that we got a Priest named Bruno Joquera to come out and do work with us! We got to teach a bunch of people through tracting and even found a new investigator! This really is the Lord's work.
Oh, I remembered something else! The Fort Collins Temple was dedicated this Sunday, and President Uchtdorf dedicated it! So if you have Google maps, look up Austin Bluffs Pkwy. We had to go all the way down to Pearl drive, left on Montebello, and then right on Meadowlands to get to the stake center to watch the dedication. That was the easy part. The way to the stake center is all down hill! A very large and long hill! Which I promptly crashed on because I didn't slow down fast enough. Don't worry mom, didn't even get a scratch! In the words of Elder Nielsen, I "danced" off my bike. In all reality it felt like some one picked me up and set me down, and I know that Heavenly Father was looking out for me. After that sweet adrenaline rush, we watched the dedication, and President Uchtdorf was hilarious! During the Cornerstone Ceremony, he was cracking jokes and commentating the entire time. I was laughing so hard! The rest of it was really uplifting and spiritual and it just showed me that God has a great sense of humor! The way back was torturous, on account of biking up Austin Bluffs. That is 2 straight miles of uphill. I was weezing by the top, but I didn't get off and walk once, and it was definitely worth the twitching in my legs!
So that was my week!
I want to take a moment and bare my testimony. I have spent 13 months in the service of Jesus Christ and my Heavenly Father. At times, I have lost focus, but I can say with every particle of my soul, that I know they live, and this is their work. I know that Christ came and lived and died for me. I will sing praises to His name forever. I have been reading the Infinite Atonement by Tad R. Callister, and in the book, he talks about how often Christ is mentioned having his arms extended toward us and that being saved feels like a warm embrace. I know that embrace, It is the best feeling in the world. It makes life worth living. If you want to improve every aspect of your life, get to know Christ. Read, ponder, and pray. Go to church and partake of the Sacrament. Give up your favorite sin. You'll never regret it, I promise. I know that Joseph Smith was the Prophet of the Restoration, and that Thomas S. Monson is the Lord's living Prophet today. The Book of Mormon is true. Plain and simple. If you have any questions about anything, read the Book of Mormon. It is so worth it. Last of all, I testify of God's love for you. And for me. He loves us perfectly and eternally and so does his Son, my Savior, and Redeemer, Jesus Christ.
And I love you too!
Love,
Elder Rogers
P.S. sorry, no pics this week... I forgot my camera -_-
